The gift of TRUTH "Forever, O LORD, Your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.” - Ps 119:89 How much does truth matter? Well putting it plainly, truth matters entirely - truth matters absolutely. One might assume that because God has given us His truth in certainty, by giving us His Word, that truth is something plain and obvious to us all. Evidently that’s just not the case. We live in a world of differing, mutually-exclusive religions and faiths, which confirms that no matter how ‘clear' we believe God has been in giving us His word, man will always be quick and able to adulterate God’s truth by inventing their own religions and self-flattering faiths. Every truth, stands as ‘truth’ irrespective of what mankind may think about it. Every truth of scripture ties together harmoniously to build what becomes God’s precious gift to His church, a system of God-glorifying, pride-slaying theology. When one of these truths is compromised, it not only jeopardises the foundation of that building, but in fact crumbles it entirely. The God we serve is a precise God, a Holy God, an exact God and being such, He has not left us with wishy washy, unclear or ambiguous truth. We believe that the bible is God’s spoken word to His people. This word is a consistent, infallible and sufficient to guide God’s people in all areas of faith and morals. We believe that every piece of truth contained in God’s word is a consistent and indispensible part of God’s entire revelation to His covenant people. Jesus in His earthly ministry prayed for His people in this way, “I have given them Your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that You take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.” John 17:14-17 This prayer is an infallible promise for certainty in the Christian life; I say certainty because Jesus never prayed a prayer that was not heard or heeded by His Father. (Jn 11:42, “I know that You always hear Me…”)
